September 2006 Heller & Metzger PC Announces New Partners
Heller & Metzger PC, the Washington, D.C.-based architectural specifications consulting firm, has two new partners, Doris King, AIA, and Kathleen Alberding, AIA, CSI, LEED® AP.
Doris and Kathy join founding partners Barbara Heller, FAIA, and David Metzger, FAIA FCSI as leaders of the firm.
Doris King joined Heller & Associates in 1983 after working in the Washington, D.C., office of Daniel Mann Johnson and Mendenhall; and previously, the New York City office of I.M. Pei & Partners, where she was involved with curtainwall design. She has prepared architectural specifications for diverse projects including healthcare facilities, multi-unit residential buildings, senior housing, community centers, corporate headquarters, university and private school buildings, museums, embassies and office buildings. Doris received her B.Arch. from the University of Maryland.
Prior to joining Heller & Metzger in 2004, Kathy Alberding spent 17 years working for the Washington, D.C., offices of Ellerbe Becket, Shalom Baranes and HOK, primarily focusing on federal and institutional work. Before moving to Washington, Kathy was involved with international work in the Houston office of Caudill, Rowlett, Scott. Since joining Heller & Metzger Kathy has continued to work on federal and institutional work, as well as commercial buildings, and has been involved with projects working toward LEED certification.
March 2006 On April 1, 2006, at the 2006 CSI convention in Las Vegas, David Metzger, FAIA, principal of Washington, DC-based Heller & Metzger, PC, will be invested as a Fellow of the Construction Specifications Institute. David is only the 26th person to be honored as a Fellow of both the AIA and CSI. Fellowship is among CSI's highest honors. Fellows are nominated by their colleagues and selected by CSI's Jury of Fellows in recognition of their accomplishments in advancing construction technology, improving construction specifications, educating people in the construction industry, or advancing the goals of the Institute. Only 365 members have been elevated to Fellowship in CSI's 58-year history.
December 2005 Dave Metzger will present "Specifications as a Design Tool" at the Ecobuild Federal conference, being held December 13-16, 2005, in Washington, D.C. Ecobuild Federal, sponsored by the Sustainable Building Industry Council, will address the issues of integrating green practices and technologies into the federal building and construction sector. September 2005 Heller and Metzger has been selected to provide specification services for two courthouse renovation projects: The Thurgood Marshall U.S. Courthouse in New York City and the Potter-Stewart U.S. Courthouse in Cincinatti, Ohio. The Thurgood Marshall Courthouse, initially designed by Cass Gilbert in the 1930s, is slated for a $193 million upgrade and renovation. Beyer Blinder Belle will lead the design team, in association with Davis Brody Bond and Flack + Kurtz. The Potter-Stewart Courthouse, constructed in 1939, will undergo a $40 million renovation, led by Quinn Evans. The renovation, which includes the space formerly used by the U.S. Post Office, will include new courtrooms, chambers, and offices, among other things.

June 2005 David Metzger will present "Specifications as a Design Tool" at Ecobuild America in Orlando FL.
May 2005 Barbara Heller will be a co-presenter at the AIA Convention in Las Vegas, NV along with AIA Documents Committee Counsel Suzanne Harness for the program “AIA 2007 Documents: Addressing Our Changing Profession.”
April 2005 Heller & Metzger selected as specification consultants for an addition to the Nixon Library.
March 2005 Heller & Metzger selected as specification consultants for renovations to the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater.
February 2005 Heller & Metzger selected as LEED consultants for Wedge 3 of the Pentagon Renovation Project, representing the Hensel Phelps team.
January 2005 Barbara Heller awarded AIA Presidential Citation in honor of her contribution as Chair of the AIA Documents Committee.
December 2004 Heller & Metzger selected as specification consultants for NY Jets Stadium.
Summer 2004 Heller & Metzger selected as specification consultants for Renovations to Terminal A, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
